8 Steps To Achieve Top Rankings For Your E-commerce Business

Recently I had a question from a member in a forum asking me about how to market their e-commerce business using search engines. In light of this question, I thought it was be good to share this with everyone. Getting your e-commerce business listed on search engines can be very rewarding and will drive more “free”  traffic to your e-commerce business. I have personally used this strategy many times and it has helped me gain higher rankings for my own e-commerce websites. Not to brag or anything, I want to give you some examples of my success with achieving top rankings in Google: (click on image for larger version)

Keywords: Dragonboat Paddles:

Keywords: Dragonboat Paddle Bags:

Keywords: Dragonboat Blog:

If you read and apply these steps I show you below in your own business, I guarantee you will achieve top rankings in the search engines. Some of you may get results within hours, for others it will take a few days. I would continue to monitor and review your results. It took me a few weeks to find the right mix of keywords to use and when I finally achieved it I stuck to it and did not change anything. It continues to dominated the no. 1 position today.

Creating Quality Content To Be Found

Step 1: Choosing Your Keywords

  • Consider what are the questions people ask when they want to find a product? Think about the issues they face.
For example, a customer is looking for a paddle to use for dragonboating. Where can I buy a dragonboat paddle?
  • Take the keywords from the question and find out what other keywords are related.
For example, dragonboat paddles will have dragonboat paddle bags, dragonboat accessories, dragonboat jewellery, etc.
A tool I recommend to find these keywords is PPC Webspy and it is free to use. Download and install it on your browser and it will do the rest.
  • Write down these keywords and you start to accumulate a few. Have at least 20 keywords on your list.

Step 2: Writing Your Content With These Keywords

  • The content that you will be writing includes product descriptions, articles, reviews, contact and about us pages and anything that has information for a consumer.
  • Let’s take for example writing an article for your website, which talks about your products. Include a few of the keywords related to the product. If I am writing about a dragonboat paddle, I will want to talk about the dragonboat paddle’s specifications, features, benefits, and the price. Within this article include your keywords such as dragonboat paddle, where to buy dragonboat paddles, size of dragonboat paddle and so forth.
  • The article should be at least 600 words.
  • The main keyword needs to be included on your page title. For example, Where To Buy Dragonboat paddles?

Step 3: Create Multimedia Content

  • Multimedia content can be an audio or video recording.
  • For an audio content, you can record an interview with a expert in the field talking about your product.
  • You may want to show a demo of your product using video content and give a live experience of how the product works in the consumers hands.
  • Make sure to include your website details on the recordings so people can identify your business and also refer to it later on.

Step 4: Embed Your Multimedia Content Into Your Written Content

  • Upload your audio content to Digital Podcast and make sure to use the same title as your article and have a good description to go with it.
  • Upload your video content to YouTube and use the same title as your article with a good description to go with it.
  • Using these services will help broadcast your article and content much faster for search engines to find it.

Getting Your E-Commerce Business Into The Market

Step 5: Submit Your Content To Social Networks

Step 6: Sydnicate Your Video

Step 7: Submit Your Videos To Social Networks

  • Repeat Step 5 for each of your video pages you have created in Step 6.

Step 8: Repeat The Process And Watch Your E-commerce Business Rise Up

Wait a few hours, a few days or even weeks for your content to be found in the search engines. Then type your post title in a search engine and see your results. If your post is not ranking higher then you will need to repeat the process.

Continue to repeat the process on a few of your products and watch your website move up in Google. It will take time, but what you are essentially creating are links to your website that will let search engines know you have an authority on the Internet.

If you have great success with this strategy, please leave your comments below and share it.

    Hi Tyrone,

As far as creating the content, is there a certain number of keywords you should use per article?

Great post, I really enjoyed the step by step and screen shots. Made it very easy to understand.

    Best regards,
    John

    • Hi John,

I would say to use at least a minimum of 3 keywords in your content. The most important is to have the keywords located in your title which is where search engines will predominately search for your article.

      Thanks.
