Hi! It’s Tyrone from Tyroneshum.com and welcome to the dedicated channel where I share with you outsourcing and automation tips.
In today’s video, I want to share with you something about video related. I know that I don’t really talk much about video but I know I do a lot of video in terms of sharing you tips here but there’s a question that somebody did ask me about how to create the right lighting and how to do it properly and that’s something that I think a lot of people find it difficult doing is getting the really, really good light and not spending a fortune on doing that.
So what I’m going to do here with you is just to share with you a little – Do-It-Yourself kind of lighting thing that I do for myself. Currently at this point in time, I’ve got a light just facing in front of me which just brights up my face and also lights up everything around me so that you can see who I am and clearly as well. If I have my lights switched off, you’ll probably see dark face here because without that light, you just can’t see me clearly.
So all I need was just that, that you need to have the right kind of lighting to be able to get the right exposure. Otherwise, you’ll just going to have a big, big – bright face with just a lot of background black on the back of you. And I’ve just done that with just trial and error and also learned from a lot of people who are very good in video. So in order to do that, you need to buy either expensive light which is pretty much one of those big ones that – ah, I’ll show you a picture of that anyway but it’s one of the big ones where it has a ton of light that’s inside and it’s white light and it’s big box. And it costs you anywhere between $300 to about $600 just to buy one of those lights.
You can’t go as there’s extremes to buy something like that and I know people do and you’ve got the money to do it but I didn’t see that as being necessary option. I just created one myself and used very simple things. So I’m going to show you a Do-It-Yourself strategy or tip on how to be able to create your own lighting. Firstly tape, pair of scissors, some baking paper, I’ll show you where that’s useful and also you’ll need to buy a lamp from Ikea. I bought this lamp from Ikea for about 20bucks. It’s a standing lamp, it’s pretty heavy down the bottom. Got the base here, it’s got a flick and a switch. And also too, it’s got the original lamp that goes here. I’ll show you one thing; it’s that this part here which originally put onto the top here. There’s a little – it’s a two-way light so one light that goes up there and one light that goes over here and this is more or less your reading light that goes here.
But what I’ve done is as I said this is Do-It-Yourself, DIY type of modification and what I’ve done is just don’t worry to put the top on, I did screw it off and basically I changed over that top part which is this and I dismantled onto this part here and that means I can have an adjustable light that goes up and down, I can face it anywhere I want. And because of its flexible cord, it’s really, really practical because then if the light’s not correct, if it doesn’t shine evenly I’ll just adjust it up and down. And currently when I’m talking to you right now, I’ve got the same one there so I’ve got 2 of these lights. But I dismantled this one so I can actually show you how it looks.
Okay, so all you need to do is basically get your light bulb, put the dome off as I said, screw it all in. I chucked away this one, this is the original one that goes on here. I chunked it, don’t need to keep it. Screw this part that’s here. The original screw is into that and have that dome lined up. And all you need to do is just get say about 40watt lamp which is what I’ve got right here – screw that straight in okay – and once that’s screwed straight in, then just make sure everything’s just firm and tight. You’ve got the light bulb that’s right there I don’t know if you can see that from there. And all you have to do now is just cut, get your baking paper and cut a square piece that fits just right nicely around this dome and that’s what they usually – they don’t usually use baking paper but they use a very light sort of cover white film that goes on top of their lighting to be able to get that soft lighting shades so it doesn’t have that direct glare at your face. That’s all you need to do. Put the baking paper on, get some sticky tape right here and just stick it on top right that. So I’ve got a bit of sticky tape and I’ll just stick it on top of there. And you know, stick it on four different corners and once you got it stuck on four different corners, you’ll be able to create your own light like that. And as you can see you’ve got very much simple lighting that works very, very well.
Once you’ve lighten it up, what will happen is that the light will equally reflect out through the baking paper. And that’s how I created a very simple Do-It-Yourself lighting. And that’s – that’s pretty much it. Nothing more to it, and if you’re to hit or use this kind of technique, it does the job and it’s more than sufficient enough to be able to give you lighting. I know that people are doing green screen, you can do exactly the same thing and all you have to do is simply back on 20-25bucks for the lamp, it costs you few hundred dollars, and also too you know baking paper might cost you 2-3bucks, tape a dollar from something like the retail shop and you’re all set and done. Not that hard at all.
All right so I hope that this tip has helped you and also too, I hope that you can implement this and use this for your video equipment if you are doing a video like me. That’s really all you need, just your video, your camera and your lighting. And – you know, you’ve got all that kind of stuff up and ready.
Anyway, I love to hear your tips, I love to hear your feedback. Any comments that you might have, feel free to leave them down below this video and share them with me.
