In my opinion Magento is one of the most interesting ecommerce solutions worldwide. More than 1.5 Mio Downloads are a blast and the demand is very high. One of the success factors is a huge community providing a lot of extensions and help around Magento.

Hi John,

I believe Magento has great support as the developers respond within 24 hours. It’s a company that has a lot of vested interest and wants to make it the best software in the market. I know it’s still in the earlier stages and there are expected bugs, but ask around in their forum and you will get a quick response.

Magento Commerce is one of the best open source packages I could recommend anyone to use. You will need to know a bit about PHP and MySQL. If you have some programming knowledge as you mentioned about ASP.NET, PHP shouldn’t be hard for you to pick. Hopefully that helps. If you need more assistance with setting it up, please comment further.

Great post. I would agree that it’s a good tool for ecom. I believe another downside to Magento as well as any open source software is it’s level of support. Anyone have any experience or feedback on how Magento’s customer support is?
